A GPS odometer adds up the distance between location fixes, so it can differ a little from your car's odometer, which counts wheel turns. Here's one week of commuting logged both ways:

A steady gap of 1-2% usually comes from tyre wear and size (the car side) and from GPS cutting corners between fixes (the app side).
