Arrival is clock arithmetic in your departure timezone. It does not adjust for a time-zone crossing.

Quick answer: This travel time calculator estimates how long a journey takes from distance and average speed, then adds any planned breaks and shows an arrival time. Driving 300 miles at an average of 55 mph takes about 5 hours 27 minutes before stops. Use realistic averages, not the speed limit, because traffic and junctions slow every trip.

TL;DR

  • Time = distance ÷ average speed.
  • Add breaks for an honest ETA.
  • Use realistic averages, not limits.
  • Shows arrival clock time.
  • Typical averages below.

How the travel time calculator works

It divides distance by your expected average speed to get moving time, adds break minutes, and adds the result to your departure time. It is deliberately simple. Navigation apps use live traffic and road data and will usually be more accurate for a specific route; this tool is for planning and for routes where you know your own typical pace.

Choosing an average speed

Your average is almost always well below the speed limit. Motorway trips with little traffic might average 55–65 mph; mixed rural routes 40–50 mph; city driving 15–25 mph. Cyclists often average 10–15 mph; walkers around 3 mph. Check your own history in Speedometer PRO's trip history for real numbers.

Planning breaks

Many road-safety bodies recommend a break of at least 15 minutes every two hours on long drives. Add those minutes to the calculator so your arrival estimate is honest and you are not tempted to speed to make it up.

Time zones

Crossing a time-zone line changes the clock arrival time but not your travel time. The calculator shows arrival in your departure zone.

FAQ

How long does it take to drive 100 miles?

At an average of 50 mph, 2 hours; at 65 mph, about 1 hour 32 minutes. Add time for stops, traffic and fuel.

Should I use the speed limit as my average?

No. Junctions, traffic and slowing for bends keep real averages well below the posted limit on almost every route.

How do I include breaks?

Enter total break minutes in the breaks field. The tool adds them to the moving time before working out your arrival clock time.

Is this better than Google Maps?

No. Navigation apps use live traffic and road data. This calculator is for simple planning and for checking your own typical pace.

Can I use it for cycling or walking?

Yes. Enter a realistic average, for example 12 mph for leisure cycling or 3 mph for walking, and the result works the same way.
