Speedometer with map

Quick answer: Speedometer PRO is a speedometer with map. Its Map tab, built on Mapbox, shows your current location so you can see where you are while the Speed tab tracks how fast you are going. It is not a turn-by-turn navigator, and loading map tiles generally needs a data connection, while speed itself comes from GPS alone.

TL;DR

  • Map tab uses Mapbox.
  • Shows your current location.
  • Not a navigation app; no directions.
  • Map tiles may need data; GPS speed does not.

What the Map tab shows

The screenshots show a Mapbox map centred on your current position. That is handy as a passenger, on a walk, or when you want to see which road or district you are on without leaving the app. Switching tabs does not stop the current trip.

Speedometer with map vs navigation apps

Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze give directions and, in many regions, show speed limits. Speedometer PRO does not route you anywhere. Its map is context for the speed reading. If you need guidance, run your navigation app and glance at the speed there; if you want a large dedicated readout with HUD and trip stats, use ours. Running two GPS apps at once uses more battery.

Data use

Map imagery is downloaded as tiles when you view an area. GPS position and speed come from satellites and need no data. If you lose signal in the countryside, the speed keeps working but the map may show blank tiles. See speedometer offline.

Route drawing

Some competitors draw your path as you drive and save it with the trip, such as the track tail in Speedometer 55 and route maps in Speedometer» Pro. We have not confirmed whether Speedometer PRO draws your route, so we do not claim it here.

Privacy

Viewing map tiles involves requests to the map provider for the area on screen. The Google Play data safety section says the app collects and shares no data.

Using the map safely

Do not pan or zoom while driving. If you need to check the map, ask a passenger or pull over. The map is most useful for planning before you go and for passengers.

FAQ

Does Speedometer PRO have a map?

Yes. The Map tab uses Mapbox to show your current location while the Speed tab keeps measuring. It is meant for context, so you can see which road or area you are in, not for directions.

Does it give directions?

No. It is not a navigation app and does not plan routes or give turn-by-turn guidance. Use a navigation app such as Google Maps or Apple Maps when you need directions.

Does the map work offline?

Speed keeps working offline because it comes from satellites, but map tiles usually need a connection to load. Areas you have not viewed recently may appear blank without data.

Does it show my route?

We have not confirmed whether trips are drawn on the map, so we do not claim it. Check the latest store screenshots or contact us.

Who provides the map?

Mapbox, a commercial mapping platform whose maps are built largely on OpenStreetMap data. The screenshots show Mapbox attribution on the Map tab.
