Quick answer: Speedometer PRO is a speedometer app for iPhone, released on the App Store on 20 October 2026 (version 1.2). It needs iOS 15.0 or later and shows live GPS speed in MPH or KM/H, a mirrored HUD mode, an odometer, trip stats with history, and Map and Compass tabs. It is free, with optional Premium.
TL;DR
- App Store, Navigation category, iOS 15.0+.
- Free with optional Premium.
- Uses iPhone Location Services for speed.
- No Apple Watch or CarPlay version.
- No ratings yet on the store at time of checking.
Install on iPhone
Open the App Store listing, tap Get, then open the app. When iOS asks for location access, choose Allow While Using App and make sure Precise Location is on. Without precise location, iPhone may only share an approximate area, which is not enough for speed.
How iPhone measures speed
Apple's Core Location framework reports speed in metres per second along with each location update, and marks it invalid when it cannot estimate it. Apps like ours convert that figure into MPH or KM/H. Quality depends on sky view: an iPhone in a cupholder under a metal roof will do worse than one on a windshield mount.
iPhone settings that matter
- Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services: on, and set to While Using for Speedometer PRO.
- Precise Location: on.
- Low Power Mode: can reduce background activity; keep the app open on screen.
- Auto-Lock: the app may need to stay on screen for a continuous reading.
Speedometer app for iPhone vs built-in options
iPhone has no built-in speedometer app. Apple Maps shows speed limits on some roads, but not a full-screen speed readout. Third-party apps fill that gap; our best speedometer apps list compares several App Store options with checked dates.
iPhone location settings
In Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, set Speedometer PRO to While Using the App and turn on Precise Location. Low Power Mode may reduce location update frequency.
Older iPhones
The app supports iOS 15 and later. Older phones may take longer to get a fix but generally measure speed well outdoors.
Requirements
Check the App Store listing for the minimum iOS version and device compatibility.
What the iPhone version does not have
There is no Apple Watch companion, CarPlay screen, Live Activity or Dynamic Island readout in the current version, and no speed alerts. If you need those, Speedometer» lists Watch and Dynamic Island support on its listing.
